For proper forest management
“Forest management certification” means a recognized and tested verification procedure that leads an independent body to issue a certificate, proving that the forest management forms do meet certain “sustainability” requirements.
The PEFC mark guarantees the presence of a company within a chain of certified businesses, and the use of sustainable raw materials, that must be produced according to specific environmental, social and economic criteria.
The concept of “sustainability” in the forestry sector, which inspires the PEFC, refers to management practices and criteria, capable of guaranteeing at the same time:
1) protection of the environment;
2) rights and traditions respect;
3) sustainability of forestry activities, from an economic point of view
These principles are declined in the PEFC standard in 6 criteria and 104 indicators and guidelines.
